Comment on “people don’t live in silos”. I do not 100% understand the reference or use of this Silo in this context. However an observation is that over the 30 years opportunities for people to join together in community or cultural environments has been suppressed by many factors. The freedom to gather was limited by laws against gatherings over 500 people. The increase in licensing laws for cultural events was strengthened. We have been herded into our own family and individual isolation by other factors such as the increasing costs of going out. The focus on staying in and watching the TV and not venturing out into a frightening and lawless world that is portrayed on the box and other printed media. The increased reliance on Internet services. The further promotion of the “ME” culture reduces the amount of people prepared to join in or find a collective voice to seek environmentally focussed solutions to local and global problems. The Government is cynically messing with society by the state claiming the “Big Society” We need to work with all people in society not just our perceived political allies we have to overcome political colours to actually get things done. People who are hard to reach have been engineered in to that position over a long generational process of exclusion and deprivation and the easy to reach are often the most selfish who perceive they have “No need” for behavioural change. People do not live in silos. We/They have been placed in ever diminishing boxes. We/They live in places with the world at their finger tips but no credit in the power stakes while they remain isolated and fed by what Amazon calculated they would “also like”.
